Speed Racer was everything I had hoped it would be. It's a fantastic, fun movie. The movie would have been ideal if it weren't for that annoying kid.

Sooooo shiney though. So so so shiney all the time.

Wait, you just saw it? Didn't I gush back when it came out?
Just saw the DVD - and no doubt you did. This was the first time I remembered to try it.

And aside from the little idiot, I was not disappointed at all.
I didn't mind the kid.

I DID mind that everything looked like a Dr. Seuss book, and that all the backgrounds were computer-generated using tiny, tiny tile patterns.

Actually, I'm still not sure that I enjoyed that film.
I decided early on that I wasn't going to hold the HDR effect in EVERY scene against it. The fact that they resorted to scenes that clashed with themselves, though, was rather irritating. Especially the clouds.

The style was distinctly silly and over the top, and I think they went at least far enough over-board to succeed with it. That said, it was still patently ridiculous. In this case, I liked it - but only because they took it to the Xtreme. I also loved Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, which did the same thing but with a different tone, so perhaps I just like internal consistency more than actual quality of style.
